Hyperbaric Oxygen Pre-Conditioning

Hyperbaric Oxygen Pre-Conditioning is used by surgeons around the world to help prepare their patients for a wide variety of surgical procedures. Some indicative examples follow:

Hyperbaric Oxygen preconditioning prior to coronary artery bypass graft surgery has been shown to reduce myocardial injury, intraoperative blood loss, ICU length of stay, postoperative complications, and saved on cost, post surgery.[1]

  • Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning reduces postoperative brain edema and improves neurological outcomes after surgical brain injury.[2]
  • Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning attenuates early apoptosis after spinal cord ischemia.[3]
  • Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning induces tolerance against brain ischemia–reperfusion injury by upregulation of antioxidant enzymes.[4]
  • Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning protects against traumatic brain injury at high altitude.[5]

It is widely accepted that HBOT is beneficial for patients both pre and post surgery.
